Keeping our estates safe: How Parkguard helps you

14/01/2025

We're working with Parkguard to keep our estates safe and peaceful. Parkguard are a group of dedicated officers who work with us, the police and Tower Hamlets Council to tackle antisocial behaviour and make sure you feel safe and secure.

And the best part? Parkguard’s hard work is of no extra cost to residents. This partnership is part of our commitment to delivering great value while protecting everyone who lives here.

What Parkguard does for you

Parkguard’s work is all about keeping you safe. Here are just some of the ways they’ve made a difference this year:

  • regular patrols: The team is on the ground five days a week, from 2pm to midnight, keeping antisocial behaviour in check
  • teamwork with the Police: They join forces with Tower Hamlets and local officers to handle incidents quickly and effectively
  • helping to stop crime: Recently, Parkguard spotted and detained someone wanted by Suffolk Police. They worked with the police to ensure the person was arrested
  • getting to know the community: Parkguard has built a good relationship with residents- in particular with a group on Lansbury. This partnership has allowed them to share information with the Parkguard team, helping to quickly address any concerns and keep the area safe for everyone
  • sharing Intelligence: Parkguard has built a good relationship with a group on Lansbury. This partnership has allowed residents to share information with the Parkguard team, helping to quickly address any concerns and keep the area safe for everyone

The most satisfying part is not only improving different estates in Poplar, but also helping those who have drug addictions and those who are forced into homelessness,” says Colin, Parkguard’s team leader for HARCA.

“Building relationships in the community is one of the most important aspects of my job. This has been achievable by listening to residents’ issues, taking on board their concerns and, over time, gaining their respect and their trust.

Daryl, who is a Parkguard team member serving in our community also said: “I enjoy my job. By trying to be positive and make a difference in the community, I can support those in need.”

Why it matters to you

Thanks to Parkguard, our estates are:

  • safer: Their patrols and quick action mean fewer incidents and more peace of mind. Since November 2023, they’ve issued 3,509 antisocial behaviour warnings, which have helped secure four court orders, significantly reducing issues across our estates
  • more connected: They’ve built strong ties with the police, making it easier to deal with problems

Why we work with Parkguard

Parkguard has become a vital component of our Community Safeguarding team. They not only assist with investigations and evidence collection in antisocial behaviour cases, but also play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable residents through out-of-hours welfare checks.

Colin and the team have built some fantastic relationships with residents, and we’ve received a lot of positive feedback about the team. Janet from Lansbury estate said: “I would like to say what a great job two of your men have done on the estate. Colin and Daryl have done a fantastic job, still a bit of work to do but they are brilliant at what they do.”
