Teviot community benefits from £417,500 funding boost

28/03/2024

Local organisations on the Teviot estate have been given funding to deliver projects that have a positive impact on the community.

We’re working on the Teviot regeneration in partnership with award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group. We’ve made a commitment to make sure the Teviot community benefits from new opportunities which have a positive impact throughout the regeneration.

We’ve invested £245,000 through the Community Chest Fund to help organisations deliver projects, over 2021-2022. Since then a further £172,500 has been invested to support projects that make a positive impact on the local community.

The investment programme has already begun with more detail available in our Teviot Social Value Report.

Projects have ranged from a weekly affordable food co-op, to paddle boarding and kayaking sessions for young people, financial assistance, and the delivery of large-scale community events, such as the annual, legendary Teviot Festival.

The Community Chest Fund supports local initiatives that benefit residents living in and around Teviot. The partnership has funded organisations that provide vital social services, spanning health and wellbeing, employment and training, environmental programmes, and youth initiatives.

Paul Dooley, our Director of Regeneration and Development said:

“It’s important to us that our regeneration schemes offer more to the community than just bricks and mortar. We are really pleased that, in partnership with Hill, the investment in Teviot is already generating significant benefits for local people.”

Andy Fancy, Managing Director of Hill said:

“These funds have allowed us to make a meaningful impact within the Teviot community and support a variety of events, charities, and groups, fostering connections and enhancing the quality of life for residents. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to leveraging the social value fund to support residents, nurture inclusivity, and build a stronger, more vibrant Teviot for the future.”

The regeneration of the Teviot estate is set to deliver:

  • Over 1,880 new homes, comprising a mix of flats, maisonettes, and houses to meet Teviot residents’ housing needs
  • new green and play spaces
  • new shops
  • new community and faith facilities
  • and improved infrastructure.

A planning application is being prepared for submission in late spring 2024.
