She felt that her lack of experience, IT skills, a language barrier and age had become barriers in the job market. Job applications were going nowhere, and she was becoming de-motivated.

The Hive provided Business Admin and IT training to her 50+ programme, and to top it off, Danielle also secured a 6 month work placement within the Employment & Training team!

We spoke to her as the 6 month programme was coming to an end to see how she’d gotten on.

“The training was really interesting. The Business Admin course, in particular, gave me a great introduction and insight into the field I’d like to go into. I’ve been learning a lot, and it’s really great being able to tie this learning in with a work placement, putting my learning into practice. IT training once a week has been brilliant – I feel so much more confident using computers now!

I’ve also been really happy with the work placement. It’s great to get involved with Poplar HARCA and see the variety of work it does within the community. Having this on my CV will really boost my employability, as well. My favourite things about the programme have been the opportunity to obtain certificates, learn health and safety and get some great experience in admin. I feel like my IT and communication skills have definitely improved, and my confidence in my ability has too.

I feel fortunate to have worked in an office environment that is so nice and friendly. The people are great, which is something you don’t find all the time, and I have learnt a lot from them. Aledina and Akikur, in particular, have made this a great experience. I know that it can be hard to wake up in the morning if you don’t enjoy your work. Luckily for me, that isn’t the case!”
