WHAT SITUATION WERE YOU IN BEFORE YOU STARTED WITH US?

I was unemployed when I registered and had never worked in this country before. I really wanted to get into work, preferably as a teaching assistant, but had none of the necessary qualifications and was struggling with my English – particularly writing, which meant that doing job applications was very hard. I also had no work experience to show to potential employers.

WHAT SUPPORT DID YOU GET FROM US?

I struggled on the course, especially with the writing unit, and failed the first time I sat it. The tutor and Aledina were really supportive, though, and encouraged me to go for a resit and gave me extra lessons and more one to one support.

They also assigned me an employment advisor, Mohammad. He has helped me work on my CV, look at how to build up my confidence, search for voluntary roles and find other courses that might benefit me such as paediatric first aid.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?

I have really felt my confidence in my own abilities and career prospects improve. As my English has improved, I have also been able to complete a L2 teaching assistant qualification which will really help me get employment in the future. We are currently looking for voluntary positions to give me some experience and thanks to this course I feel a lot more confident about starting one.
