Gary
Gary studied Mental Health First Aid and Personal and Social Skills Entry 1 and 2 with us. He also received IAG support.
WHAT SITUATION WERE YOU IN BEFORE YOU STARTED WITH US?
I was unemployed as I had been a carer for my mum since 2017. Before that I worked as a Social Worker and a Decorator but, when I was ready to go back into work, I found that everything was so different now.
Everything is online, job applications require so much more writing, and even uploading CVs was a struggle. I was finding it really tough as I had no IT skills at all.
WHAT SUPPORT DID YOU GET FROM US?
On Personal and Social Skills I received a great refresher and introduction to new IT skills. This course taught me how to Google, how to look up travel, and many more things. Mental Health First Aid gave me a great insight into how to help the people around me.
Alongside this, Aledina was really really helpful. Throughout the course she was there to help me with my IT skills by showing me how to upload things like my workbooks and documents to the internet and answered all of my questions.
My employment advisor, Alex was a great help as well. He worked with me to update my CV, helped me focus on specific industries and find suitable work. It was Alex who referred me to the 50+ programme at Workpath and helped me fill out the forms needed to register for the course.
WHERE ARE YOU NOW AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?
I have started work at a gym as a concierge and am really enjoying it so far. The courses and my work with Alex have really helped me to improve my confidence and skills and I wouldn’t have been able to get the job had they not helped my IT skills and navigate the new ways of getting a job.
