WHAT SITUATION WERE YOU IN BEFORE YOU STARTED WITH US?

I had never worked before starting here and had been raising four children for the past 7 years. I hadn’t studied for 17 years, so I had also forgotten how to do things like type on the computer, send emails, use screens etc. I wanted to get into work but was finding it really hard because of not having these skills and also the language barrier.

WHAT SUPPORT DID YOU GET FROM US?

I did Personal and Social Skills where I got to work with the tutor, Riaz, to get better IT skills. I learnt how to login to my online bank, how to set up an email account and use email better, and how to use Google safely. I also improved my confidence a lot and learned about things like how to travel independently. At the end of the course, they gave me a tablet so I can continue practicing IT from home and access more services.

I also received a lot of support from Tara. She was so helpful in developing my CV, applying for jobs, finding volunteering opportunities and helping me arrange childcare when I needed it.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?

I am volunteering with The Hive as a classroom assistant. I am loving the chance to help other people who are learning and am really glad to have gained some experience I can put on my CV. It is really nice to help people.

I really enjoyed the courses and would like to do more – especially more IT. I am still applying for jobs with Tara and feel much more confident about my career prospects.
